Thomas and Kelly Hiking on Chief Mountain.

Endurance is the ideal word for Kelly Ashford. A 14th generation native to Colorado, her roots are deep with a large extended family. She’s hiked several of the acclaimed 14ers in the Rockies—most with her husband Thomas, but has taken the base to the top of Mt. Elbert, Colorado’s highest peak by herself.

Her “lost in the mountain wilderness” over an eleven-day period in June of 2010 became a gripping nightmare for her family, the search team that finally participated after calls from her husband Thomas, and to herself.

On a clear day, the mountains still call to her. Her free time is spent hiking the many nearby hiking trails, enjoying time in nature with her two rescue dogs.  A life long student, learning is cherished in her household. Her interests include learning about world religions and spirituality, mythology, history, cooking, energy healing and natural remedies, yoga, daily prayer, and meditation.

Her most precious gifts are her belief in God and Country and the presence of Family.

Kelly is the  mother of two and relishes the time that she can spend with them, her husband, and Sim and Tula Sue—Indian reservation rescue dogs.

Her story is one of Endurance, the will to survive and how prayer and faith kept her alive in June of 2010.
